Sanju Misra is the principal of Misra Law PLLC.  Her practice focuses on commercial real estate, general real property, and trusts and estates law.

Estate planning is a holistic endeavor and Sanju strives to be a partner with her clients to determine what they want and need and to create an appropriate estate plan.  Sanju has extensive experience in the trusts and estates field and has represented clients ranging from families with moderate assets seeking to plan for retirement and distribution to children and grandchildren to those with high value estates requiring sophisticated asset planning and protection to Elder Law clients confronting current or impending disability.  In those Elder Law matters, she assisted in navigating the client’s needs, from estate planning and documentation to finding and obtaining support services.

Sanju also has extensive experience in commercial real estate transactions including: acquisitions, sales and financings, public-private projects, and commercial leasing.  She has worked with private developers/owners, non-profits, and government agencies.  Projects have ranged from rowhouse conversions to $200M+ mixed-use developments, office leases from suites to 400,000 rsf of premises, long term ground leases, and build-to-suit projects.  Complex commercial real estate transactions require creativity, intelligence, collaboration, patience, and hard work.  Sanju approaches these projects as a fully engaged team member with the goal of getting your project to implementation under the best legal terms possible.

Prior to starting Misra Law PLLC, Sanju worked for the District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General in the Real Estate Transactions group and then in the Office of the General Counsel for the Department of General Services (formerly known as the Department of Real Estate Services and the Office of Property Management).  In those roles, she handled hundreds of commercial real estate transactions and developed a reputation as a strong but fair advocate and a creative, intelligent, and responsive team member.  Prior to that she spent eight years with Marcus Attorneys, a boutique firm in New York City started by a prior executive vice president of the New York Economic Development Corporation.  During that time, Sanju represented private developers in mixed-use and residential development projects, worked on government financed real estate projects and partnerships, and handled a variety of other real estate transactions as well as entity formation, governance, and tax exemption issues.  In addition, she brought to Marcus Attorneys her experience in trusts and estates and Elder Law and offered those services to numerous clients, ranging from simple planning for new families to complex estate planning for clients with significant taxable estates.  Prior to joining Marcus Attorneys, Sanju worked for six years with a solo practitioner specializing in trusts and estates and Elder Law counseling.  It was in that practice that she developed a love for assisting families in difficult times as they juggled the real needs of the client and caretakers with the maze of estate planning and government assistance programs to find a solution that worked.
